Before that in the early 80's a girl who was preparing to get married usually left her place of work months before her wedding day, the better to focus on her new role of a married woman with a husband and a prospective mother.
I am not going to debate on the subject of whether it is a good or a bad idea for a woman to go out to work. 1) Work-at-home-mums have flexibility - a beautiful word. They are free to work on their own time-table. They can work 5 hours one day and do no work at all the day after. Work-at-home-mums can work at night or in the early morning when the house is relatively quiet and peaceful.
2) They can work in their sitting room relaxed in their pajamas and slippers while listening to their favourite soft music for inspiration and baby is happily gurgling in his cot.
3) Work-at-home-mums have time with their families; just put the computer on stand-by to welcome the hubby home from work or put on some makeup to go out and get the children back from school.
4) They do not work on a fixed salary. A work-at-home-mum can earn 000's of pounds per month depending on her efforts and ability (and luck).
5) No boss to harass her one way or another. A work-at-home-Mum is her own boss. She has job satisfaction, what she makes comes through her own creativity and sense of entrepreneurship. Moreover she can help other women to follow in her footsteps.
6) The greatest contributor to the success of a work-at-home-mum is the adherence to the cardinal principle, namely that of 'doing what she likes doing best'. For example she may be giving out tips on flower-arrangement, on aromatherapy, on slimming, on cooking-Recipes and so on.
